Chimichurri, the Shaman
While I have several WoW “toons”, I have to admit that by far my Shaman is my favorite. People ask me all the time why I like playing as an Enhancement Shaman so I will take the time to detail it here. First off, here is why I like Shamans:
- Shamans are a hybrid class, and as such can perform different roles in a raid. Even without changing spec at a given time, in times or emergency any DPS shaman can decently heal, and any RESTO shaman can decently DPS. This makes us a strong class in any raid.
- We wear mail, compared to casters who usually wear cloth we can take some more damage while providing similar DPS or even out DPSing cloth wearers.
- Unique buffs makes us … well … unique! We provide incomparable buffs (it takes several classes to combine all the buffs we can provide with a single shaman), both offensive and defensively, both for PVP and PVE. The ability to switch around the buffs in the middle of combat to adjust to a given situation without any loss on DPS makes shaman a strong well rounded class.
- We have what can be considered one of the most powerful abilities in the game if not the most powerful. Heroism!
- When questing alone, shamans can easily solo group quests usually design for groups of up to 5 people.
- And last but not least, we get to show off an octopus face and carry around a tail
.
That’s not going into specific class. My shaman is currently Enhancement as a main spec. Here is why:
- There are not as many Enhancement Shamans in comparison with other classes.
- There is certain level of complexity in playing an Enhancement Shaman, of course all classes have their own level of complexity but considering how you need to efficiently manage four different totems for buffs while fighting and moving around, while keeping a priority non fixed rotation and more often than not required to heal melee makes every boss fight challenging and fun.
- We get benefit from every available buff in a raid, while most classes have a distinct benefit into getting Spell Power or Attack Power buffs, we benefit and maximize our DPS by having both. Being hybrid applies not only to our role in a game but in the way we deal damage as well.
- While we could still use a lot of help while PVPing, when buffed and glyphed right, using our wolves makes us pretty much unbeatable against any other class (at least while the wolves are up, if you let them die, tough luck).
- Enhancement Shaman is simply insanely fun to play, period.
Here’s my main “toon” and his details. Feel free to look me up, armory, etc., and submit your comments.

Important Note: Since I am unable to control how The Armory updates my “toon” and how often it does, the gear/spec that shows in this page may not be accurate nor appropriate. Also please note I often accidentally leave my “toon” with weird gears that may not suite what I am supposed to have. I do this often as I am testing and calculating difference among wearing different stats. Furthermore, I am also well known for re-geming a lot. I try to keep all my stats properly balanced so I can provide the best raid buffs and keep my DPS competitive.
Very nice, enjoyed the description for why you chose to go enhancement. I’ve been thinking about making a enhance shammy for a while, and just because of the included 3d model you put up, I’ve decided I will start one.
That’s great stuff, I’m glad this was useful. Since you are starting a new shaman, these posts may be useful to you: Learning about totems and Leveling your Shaman.
Cheers and thanks for reading,
